A Goal List, How Convenient!

     When I woke up this morning I had no idea that I would be making quite possibly the cutest and most simple goal list in the world. Luckily for me, the universe had other plans for me and I was very pleasantly surprised when I saw this pin on Pinterest today.
     It was love at first sight. I needed to make another post on my blog, and when I saw this pin I knew that it was the one. So I started to make it. All it took to make was: markers, a ruler, card stock paper, a little patience and sticky notes. I'm normally not very good at making straight lines, so this time I made sure to use a ruler to help. The ruler was a good choice. A very good choice. Even with the ruler, my lines weren't the straightest, but just so you know, it still looks SO cute!
     My first step in creating this genius goal list was to make the squares and rectangles. I measured how big my sticky notes were to figure out how large to make the squares. Then I proceeded to outline on my card stock with a pencil. That way if I messed up I could erase it and therefore, no permanent damage could occur. I highly recommend doing that.
     After I had everything outlined, I took a marker and made the lines darker and did some decorating. I made sure to be careful and tried my hardest not to mess up, otherwise it would have showed up big time. That would have been devastating because I actually wanted to be able to use this craft!
     When I had finished going over the lines I made with the pencil, I wrote "goal list for" in big, cursive letters in the rectangle. And then I wrote my goals on some sticky notes and stuck them on. It was so easy to make, and it turned out really well. I didn't have to spend any money because I already had all the materials that I needed at my house, and the total time spent on this project was an hour. Of course if you're better at drawing straight lines and not as much of a perfectionist as I am, I'd say you could easily execute this craft in less than 30 minutes.
     So I was finished with the craft, and I showed my mom. She loved it! And get this, she even said that I should laminate it because it turned out so well. That's a big deal. And then get this even more, she actually had a laminator, so I straight up took the sticky notes off the paper and laminated it! It was so great. Now it will never get ripped or hurt in any way. It's safe forever!
     This pin was such a good one! I want everyone who reads my blog to give this one a try, because it's so simple, yet it is so helpful as well which is amazing! Normally pins on Pinterest are cute, but they aren't actually useful in a real-world setting. But I have news for you. This one is. And it is totes cute.      
     Rate: 9.98 out of 10. I'm giving it -.02 because it was a little difficult for me to make the lines straight...but a 9.98 out of 10 is like as good as kissing in the rain! Although I've never actually done that, I've heard that a lot of people put that on their bucket list, so heck, it must be a really good thing to do. Maybe some day I'll try it. But for now, I'll stick to making the projects I find on Pinterest. Thanks for reading. I hope I've inspired you all today. I must bid you adieu.

From "Drab" to "Fab"!!!

      Oh my lanta guys!! This was such a great pin. For reals. It all started a few days ago when I was looking on Pinterest and saw this wonderful creation, a scarf. Scarves are wonderful. I love them! So naturally when I saw a DIY scarf I just couldn't resist. I caved. I had to try it. And I did. 
       I started my mission by doing what any good crafter would do, I read the instructions. That's right, you heard me correctly. I actually read the instructions this time, and boy did it pay off in the end! Of course when you look at the original pin, you will see that the directions consist of three words: Cut, Slice, Pull. So easy a cave man could do it! Literally. I saw it on a documentary once....ok you caught me! I lied. It wasn't a scarf they made, it was a wheel which if you ask me is slightly more impressive but much less fashionable. Ah well, let's let bygones be bygones. 
     So anyway, after I read the instructions, I got the materials. This is the best part, I didn't even have to go to the store and spend money on this one! That's right, I had everything that I needed....all I had to do was search through my drawers until I found a shirt that was expendable and that white T-shirt definitely fit the criteria. And just a little fyi my definition of "expendable" is this: if I lose this will I cry uncontrollably for several weeks on end and feel the urge to eat several gallons of ice cream to drown my sorrows and block out any sense of pain? And thankfully losing that shirt has only thus far caused mild to spicy depression and the urge to eat lots of cinnamon bears. But then every time I see that beautiful scarf, life is good again. :) So it's really NBD (that's no big deal for those of you who aren't fluent in text lingo/jargon). 
     After I had picked the shirt that I would sacrifice, I got out the scissors (aka the murder weapon) and in a sudden turn of events started hacking away at the shirt. It was a massacre! Haha....jokes on you it really was quite calm and somewhat therapeutic. I cut the shirt right where the waistline is and just chopped it in half (it was more like 2/3s of the way up). Then I proceeded to cut slices halfway up the part I had just cut off. You know what, you're just going to have to look at the pictures because it's very hard to explain how I cut this thing...
     But anyway, after I cut it all I had left to do was to pull on the strips that I had just cut to make them look cooler, there is a more specific reason but all that matters is that it made it look much cooler. So after I did that, which only took about 5 minutes, the scarf was ready to wear! 
     I wanted to look high class so I put together a totes great outfit and put the scarf with it and DANG! It was a good outfit! At least I thought so....no one else really said anything about it. Literally. No one complimented it. That was a smidge frustrating, but I got over it because I thought it looked good.       Actually, at church one girl asked me if I got the idea for the scarf off of Pinterest and I proudly said "Yes! And it was so easy to make!" She thought it was cute, and so I was pleased with my efforts. 
     For a five-minute craft this was definitely top quality, and it was so simple! I would give this craft a 9 out of 10 (on a scale of 1 to 10 of course). FYI a 9 means: A wonderfully, amazing, classy, non-tacky, and as good as a virgin Pina Colada. Oh boy that means it's a good one in case you were curious and maybe don't share the same love for Pina Coladas that I do. They are just delightful.

Oh, if you have any suggestions on what I could do with the rest of the shirt that I didn't use to make the scarf that would be so fabulous because then I wouldn't have to waste it...and it would be better for the environment! What is better than sugar cookies, cream cheese frosting, and fresh fruit? I'm going to have to say there is nothing in the world that even comes close to beating that! Not even baby kittens. That’s a big deal. 
Now, this pin was fairly easy to execute. I bought cookies in a package so that all I had to do was throw them in the oven and make sure to set the timer. I wanted to have a foolproof plan, but let's be real. Nothing is fool proof. 
After I put the cookies in the over, I began cutting up the fruit. 
Naturally I pretended that I was Rachel Ray, a cooking extraordinaire, and tried to make every slice precise. And once again, naturally I ended up with non-glamorous blobs of fruit…fail (ok maybe I exaggerated a bit, it wasn’t a major failure). Trying to redeem myself from the not so great cutting job, I turned my attention towards the frosting. I then pulled a typical non-homemaker move; I tried to rush things and became impatient. 
I took the cream cheese straight out of the fridge and, without letting it soften, put it right in the bowl with the powdered sugar and began mixing them together. It’s not like it didn’t work, it’s just that it didn’t work well. At all.
 So now I have burnt cookies, (I burnt the cookies by the way) chunky frosting, and blobs of fruit. Solid! Why am I so good at life?! (if you couldn’t tell that was a hint of sarcasm). It was sad. I'm the worst. The cookies were crunchy. BUT, they were still super delicious which made me so happy! Even though I messed up on them, they still tasted like heaven! 
So I highly recommend this recipe. It was so easy, that even I could do it! Me! A non-crafty, non-homemaker can do it! Seriously though, I decided while making these cookies that I'm not very good at being a girl. Girls are supposed to be amazing at baking and amazing at sewing and things like that and I'm just straight up not. It’s a sad life I lead, not being very good at being a girl. But that's beside the point, the point of this is to say how great the pin was and let me tell you, this pin was WONDERFUL!
 I would give it an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.  And when I say 8, I mean that it’s frozen yogurt good.  That’s dang good! Seriously, it was so easy, all I had to do was put the cookies on a sheet and throw them in the oven, cut up some fruit, and mix cream cheese with powdered sugar to make the best cookies ever! I highly recommend this pin.
 My only advice would be to let the cream cheese soften prior to making the frosting….that was kind of a big mistake. I’m good at doing that. But that’s what’s so great about life, we can learn from each others mistakes! So now all of you can make delicious cookies without burning them and without making chunky frosting. I hope you enjoy! :)

First Fiasco...

I wanted to start out with something simple, so of course I chose to make adorable paintings. My first step was to find a pin off of Pinterest that I liked, and then buy the materials. They added up to a total of        12 dollars, which I thought was a fairly reasonable price.

 I came back to my apartment very anxious and excited, I was ready to get going and do some work making a seriously cute craft! I just forgot one major thing...the leaves. Without the leaves I was just going to have pink and blue painted boards, how cute would have that been? Not so cute. So I set out on an adventure with my roommate to find the perfect leaves. This was a fairly simple task, we live in a beautiful place that has tons of trees so I just chose the best looking leaves and took them. I hope that wasn't a bad thing to do...whoops! (For all you tree lovers out there, I'm very sorry I robbed a few trees of their leaves).

 While the leaves were being squished in a book, I started painting the white canvas squares with the blue and pink paint that I got at the store. That was a very easy job, the paint went on smoothly and dried remarkably quickly. I was quite impressed, so far things were seeming to be going great! Unfortunately things were about to go South...way South. Like almost to Mexico south. 

When my boards were sufficiently dry I got the leaves out of the books and put them on the boards. Now this is where big mistake number one comes in: I didn't allow the leaves to "squish" long enough, so they did not lay flat on the board. I decided in my naive mind that this wasn't going to be a big problem at all. Boy was I wrong! Big mistake number two: I didn't secure the leaf on the canvas before I started spray painting. DO NOT DO THAT! It did not turn out at all because the moment I started spraying the canvas with the spray paint, the leaf moved around and made it impossible to get a good outline of it. It ended up looking like a blob, a big fat ugly blob. It was awful! So when I went to do the second one, I got a little bit smarter. 

I decided to tape the leaf down so that when I sprayed it, it would stay! I'd call that stroke of genius divine intervention because the next one turned out great! After taping it all down, which took about 10 minutes to really get it down good, I sprayed it and SHABAM! It looks great! Overall, this craft was simple and turned out pretty amazing. 

My advice for someone else who is thinking about doing this is: Yes! Go for it, but be patient. I was too anxious to get started so I didn't let the leaves flatten enough and it made it much more difficult to tape it down. So be patient and in the end you'll have a totally adorable craft that was worth the 3 hours or so that I put into it! Rate for this pin on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being a dirty diaper and 10 being the Mona Lisa): 6.5- somewhere between Zac Efron and corn on the cob.

The Start of Something New

     Have you ever been looking at Pinterest and wondered if any of the DIY crafts were even humanly possible? I sure as heck have, because here's the deal: I'm SO not crafty. I'm the least crafty/creative person I know, but Pinterest makes it look so easy! And that is why I've decided to blog about my DIY craft endeavors. Some will turn out great, some probably won't turn out great and, well let's be real, most of them probably won't turn out at all. But I'm willing to give it a try!
